“It is with challenges that you become always better and the experience with Cargill is definitely offering that. By receiving progressively more and more responsibilities I grew, I gained confidence both in the quality of my work and myself as a person.”

Looking back at my journey with Cargill, I am grateful for all the learning opportunities given, trainings and the continuous support received. It is with challenges that you become always better and the experience with Cargill is definitely offering that. By receiving progressively more and more responsibilities I grew, I gained confidence both in the quality of my work and myself as a person. The guidance through mentorship and soft skills trainings helped me develop both on personal and professional level.

Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

I am currently working in finance team for Word Trading Unit BU, based in Geneva. Our team is responsible for financial accounting, forex exchange exposure, analyzing and looking for ways of improving processes, financial reporting and ensuring accuracy of financial information. We are involved in the daily business and working closely with trading, logistics and contract desk teams.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

During the month I am working on cost analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, as well as following up with shipments and monitoring of actual costs compared to reserves taken, reviewing and analyzing data. It is important to be in permanent communication with other departments, understand the business and the activity during the month. Participating in different projects and trying to find ways of improving our work is helping increase efficiency of our team and enlarge my knowledge. The most intense period is the month end reporting when I am focused on reconciling the profit and loss, making sure results are accurate.

Describe your career path.

Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today? I joined Cargill in GOSCE Romania as a Credit Analyst in December 2010. After almost two years, I joined the European Graduate Program and started a new role as a Financial Management Trainee. For a year and a half, I worked together with our Romania reporting team being also involved in projects with trading and execution teams. As part of the graduate program, I was able to experience a six months assignment in Geneva office, where I continued to work in the accounting team.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

What I enjoy most is that every day is diverse and there is a wide range of activities that I have been involved in. I have exposure to learn permanently and the opportunity to work with people who are open and supportive.

Why did you choose to join Cargill and what keeps you here? In other words, how has a career at Cargill helped you to thrive?

I started my career with Cargill after finishing my studies and it was the first experience of working in a multinational company. The dynamic environment, working with great people who challenge me to move out of my comfort zone, being encouraged to take initiative and always express my point of view, contributed to my choice to continue my career with Cargill.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career at Cargill like yours?

If one is interested to work in an international environment and has the willingness to learn then this is the place to be. My advice is to be open to new experiences and taking opportunities, be adaptable and never stop challenging.

Share an interesting tidbit about yourself such as hobbies, volunteerism, favorite foods or activities, accomplishments inside or outside of work.

I enjoy travelling and discovering new places, photography and outdoors activities like swimming and biking.
