In the UK, Cargill has a fully integrated process which encompasses agriculture and farming through to primary and secondary processing. The company-owned hatcheries in Shobdon in Herefordshire and Caynham in Shropshire form an important part of this internal supply chain and allows Cargill to closely manage animal welfare, traceability and quality from farm to fork.
Approximately 60 people are employed across a variety of management, transport and factory/hatchery positions. Between them the hatcheries set over two million eggs per week, which are carefully nurtured until they hatch.
The hatcheries supply over 100 laying or broiler farms where chicks are reared to the highest animal welfare and food safety standards, in accordance with farm-assured and free-range production standards, to meet the needs of our customers.
